Quick Tips: Ensure Home Security Camera Privacy with Smart Plugs

Have you thought about adding security cameras to your home? Specifically, indoor cameras? Does it give you any anxiety with being monitored in your own home?

While the companies that make the cameras have created some privacy features to allay consumer fears of indoor home security cameras, there's nothing quite like "pulling the plug" to ensure that a camera is definitively "off" at certain times. And a smart plug makes automating the power to your camera a snap!

How to Automate Your Camera's Privacy:

  1. Use a smart plug that you might have lying around, or grab a new one.
  2. Plug your security camera into it.
  3. If you already use home and away routines / automations, simply add "power on" and "power off" commands to those routines. Otherwise, use these simple pointers to create the automations for your security camera: Keep the power to the camera off unless you're asleep or away from home.
