Amazon copies Google, launches special cases for Echo Dot 2nd Generation
Not to be out-done by Google, which just launched the Echo-competitor Google Home voice-activated smart speaker, Amazon has started selling special leather and fabric cases for the new 2nd Generation Echo Dot.
The 2nd Generation Echo Dot launched in October, at a significantly lower price than the original version released earlier this year, and without its signature rotatable volume ring (replaced by physical buttons.) While the portable Echo Tap had the option of multiple color "cases" right from its release earlier this year, the Dot and the full-size Echo speakers have never had such official accessories from Amazon until now.
There are six options (in leather and fabric) for the Echo Dot Case, which cover the sides of the device but doesn't interrupt sound coming from the Dot's speaker. The Dot's top surface will sit nearly flush with the top of the Case once inserted. The six options for the Echo Dot Case are Saddle Tan Leather, Merlot Leather, Midnight Leather, Charcoal Fabric, Indigo Fabric and Sandstone Fabric.
From early reviews on the product page, it appears that at least with the fabric-based case, it is largely just a solid, hard plastic material covered with fabric, instead of a case made entirely of fabric. Reviewers do report that the case appears to fit quite snugly to the Echo Dot.
The leather cases are priced at $19.99 and the fabric-covered cases are $14.99 each. All six cases are listed as in-stock and ready to ship, and are eligible for Amazon Prime.
